As a young child in Ireland in the 60's, my family lived outside of a small town and I rarely had the opportunity to visit with school friends. There was one television network: RTE. Reading books was my primary means of entertainment.

My childhood experiences bred a love of books that still endures to the present. The reading and vocabulary skills I developed then still serve me well in my profession. However, children today have far different childhoods. It seems that grammar and vocabulary are no longer valued or emphasized as they were in the past. Thanks to the internet and cell phones, interpersonal communication skills appear to have declined.

Dedicated teachers who understand and appreciate the importance of speaking and writing skills are more important now than ever. Thanks for sharing and affirming so eloquently your thoughts and experiences.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06608580286367360065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8875519719180251501.post-84180583075885820502017-02-22T01:35:31.317-08:002017-02-22T01:35:31.317-08:00I share your love of reading and words, Ángela, bu...I share your love of reading and words, Ángela, but constantly struggle to find meaningful ways to teach vocabulary.
